The Sacred Goddess Labyrinth of Nemetona
During ancient times our ancestors held most of their sacred ceremonies outdoors, favouring small woods with well-formed trees and circular formations out of primeval rocks and stones. These sacred spaces that we now call “groves” were know by the ancient Celts as “nemeton” and were nurtured by the Celtic Goddess “Nemetona”, who silently watched over the ceremonies, infusing them with wisdom and guidance.
With synchronicity at its best, as I was completing the final lunation of a new labyrinth that I was building in my garden, “Nemetona” quietly made her presence known. She appeared firstly as a wisp of smoke that slid gently upon a shaft of sunlight through the trees, and then, was transformed in to a solitary Cape Robin, sweeping across one of the paths and swiftly alighting on to an Umgwali branch.
It was in that moment that I discovered the purpose of this labyrinth; it was meant,
not only to honour the creative energies of the Divine Feminine present everywhere,
in both men and women, but also to act as an intimate sanctuary, offering wisdom
and guidance from “Nemetona” who resides within its elaborate, yet simplistic design.
The Sacred Goddess Labyrinth of Nemetona is set within a conclave of plants and shrubs,
and sheltered by the strong arms of a magnificent Pine tree. Its sturdy branches,
whose tips entwine with the spreading arms of a magnificent Umgwali tree, stretch
protectively above the paths and form a leafy canopy similar to an arboreal sanctuary
or “sacred grove” that existed in ancient times.
The air is infused with the delicious scent of pine needles and, together with the soft melodic sounds from the many birds in residence, offers one a sense of inclusion and peace. Under the gentle eyes of the Goddess Nemetona, this sacred geometric form provides a haven where one may be inspired to contemplate the wonders of the universe, and be presented with an inter-dimensional familiarity to expand creativity and celebrate the Goddess within.
